Gwynedd grad Meghan Bishop wins 1500 at VCU meet Friday March 18

RICHMOND, VA - Four-time defending CAA Champion William and Mary women's track and field opened its outdoor season Friday at the Virginia Commonwealth Ram Invitational. The meet featured CAA rivals James Madison, Towson and VCU as well as state foe Richmond among over a dozen teams.

2004 CAA 1,500m Champion Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, PA) kicked off her 2005 outdoor campaign with a win in the 1,500m, clocking a 4:36.59 for a two-second victory over senior teammate Jackie Kosakowski (Sauquoit, NY), who claimed runner-up honors with a 4:38.53. Senior Cassidy Harris (Geneva, IL) led a strong showing for the Tribe in the hammer with her throw of 151'9", claiming runner-up honors, as senior Ayanna Jones (Richmond, VA) claimed third with a career-best 139'11" and junior Liz Hager (Max Meadows, VA) claimed fourth with a 137'2", also a personal record. In the long jump, junior Bonnie Meekins (Oakton, VA) claimed sixth with a solid leap of 16'10.5", tieing an in-uniform career-best performance (bested only by a 17'1" effort as an unattached competitor).

The VCU Ram Invitational concluded on Saturday.
