Highlanders Compete at Charlotte 49ers Classic

Charlotte, N.C. - The Highlanders conclude the Charlotte 49ers Classic with six top-five finishes on the day from Irwin Belk Stadium. The Highlanders also set two school records.

Sophomore thrower James Nixon (Prince George, Va.) placed third in the shot put with a distance of 52-02.00. This marks a new school record in the event. Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) placed eighth in the event.

Richotte also grabbed a fourth place finish in the discus and set a new school record with a mark of 149-06. Teammate Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va./Floyd County) would take sixth in the discus with a throw of 139-01. Jarrell Warthen (Richmond, Va./Monacan) claimed a top-five finish on the men's side finishing fifth and clocking a time of 48.51 in the 400 meter dash.

Other top performances for the Highlanders include Dan Oseth (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) in the high jump and Joel Hanlon in the steeplechase. Oseth placed seventh with a height of 6-04.75 and Hanlon ran a time 9:58.87 in his event.

In the field for the women, sophomore Tiffany Evans (Dumfried, Va.) placed second in the shot throwing a distance of 46-03.25. Ashley Camden (Corunna, Ontario, Canada) placed 10th in the event.

Senior sprinter Maurika Quarles (Manassas, Va.) crossed the finish line in a time of 1:01.33 to place fourth in the 400 meter hurdles. In the 3000 meter Steeplechase, Daphne Prospt (Crimora, Va.) claimed fifth with a time of 12:54.64.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished seventh (3:53.79), while the men's 4x100 finished eighth (42.07).

On day one, the Highlanders claimed two top-five finishes.

Sophomore Tiffany Evans placed second and senior Tricia Benson fourth in the hammer throw. Evans set a new school record with her toss of 175-02.

In the running events for the women Daphne Prospt placed 36th in the 5000 meter run and Shannon Brown placed 39th in the 1500 meter run.

In the field for the men, Sean McGuire placed 11th in the javelin throw with a distance of 162-07, while teammate Dan Oseth took 12th place in the long jump with a mark of 21-08.00.

On the track Joel Hanlon placed 20th in the 1500 meter run clocking a time of 4:05.85.

Radford will return to the track March 25-26 as they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the UR/VCU Invitational.
