BLACKSBURG, Va. - The VMI men's cross country team, led by Ermin Mujezinovic's fifth-place result, earned a second-place finish at Saturday's Big South Preview meet, hosted by Radford in Blacksburg, Va.

Mujezinovic finished fifth overall, concluding the 8K distance in a time of 26:43. The senior, and former All-Big South honoree, took the early lead and continued to hold the top spot after three miles. In the race's fourth mile, he was run down by Adam Freudenthal of Winthrop, who went on to win the event.

Freshman Cabell Willis was VMI's #2 runner, posting a 27:00 clocking and edging 2009 All-Conference honoree Neal Darmody of High Point at the line. Ian McGinn was ninth (27:06), while Andy Eddleton was the Keydets' #4 runner, finishing 13th in 27:27.

In the team standings, the Keydets (48 pts.) were bested by High Point (38 pts.). Winthrop was third with 71 points, UNC Asheville placed fourth with 98 points and host Radford came home fifth (140 pts.). Coastal Carolina, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb rounded out the team listings.

"This was a good job overall by our men, specifically Ian McGinn," said VMI head coach Paul Spangler. "It's good to see Ian start running well again, after missing so much time this summer due to injury."

Other Keydet finishers included Jordan White (16th/27:35), Marshall Dalessandro (17th/27:36) and Jason Thorpe (22nd/27:56). Hayden Hodges finished 29th, Frank Van Valkenburg was 31st and Kyle Corwin's 40th-place effort rounded out the VMI competitors Saturday afternoon.

"I'm happy with the effort from our men's team," said VMI's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Darrin Webb. "This is a solid result to build on as we continue to move forward towards our goals in the Big South Conference."

VMI cross country will return to action Friday, Oct. 1 as the Keydets travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the Charlotte Invitational.
