Here are some of the future stars for the hurdle events through the opening weeks of the 2026 outdoor track season.
Isaac Richardson (Ocean Lakes)
VA #8 - 300mH - 40.58
This VA sophomore has run four events this outdoor season and PR'd in all of them. On top of that he ran a blistering 1:04.64 to finish second in the Class 5 500m dash at states. He heads into the outdoor season with that endurance and the speed of a 36.52 300 indoors. Using a somewhat standard conversion one would expect his time to ultimately be roughly 2.5 seconds off of his 300m time. That gets us to around a 39.02 as a potential time to keep an eye out for. There's nothing saying that he can't go even fast too!
Lloyd Newman (Brooke Point)
VA #1 Freshman - 300mH - 42.26 | VA #2 Freshman - 110mH - 16.15
There are two big changes that happen in a male hurdler's career and those are the height raises from middle school to high school and then high school to college. The only other thing that comes close to such a big change is the change in the shot put weight and changing from 5K to 10K in cross country. So far though, Lloyd has been adapting well and running some solid times. His 110H time is less than double his 55mH time which is a great sign to show he is mastering the speed between the hurdles and getting faster.
Tyona White (Indian River)
VA #3 - 100mH - 15.36
Early into the 2026 outdoor season Tyona is already showing some great signs of her hurdler development. For starters, she is running very fast but of course it is still early in the season. She is however at a school that is really on the up & up with more and more fast times being produced at Indian River. You combine that with the fact that she trained before at the hurdle powerhouse of Track 757. Those three things in combination should make for even faster times as the season progresses.
Aaliyah Thornton (I.C. Norcom)
VA #1 Freshman - 300mH - 48.08
Thornton was all-state indoors in the 55mH and has shown some solid speed over the intermediate hurdles. The real question here is will she go all-in one of her events or continue to be a jack of all trades. Thus far as a freshman she has made the state finals in the 55m dash, finished all-state in the 55mH, triple jumped over 33', and long jumped over 16'. With that wide range of skills, it will be interesting to see how she progresses across the board because any one of these events could become "her event". Dealing with the present though, she definitely can go faster so don't be surprised to see a 46-mid 300mH this season from this freshman star.
