There are so many talented runners in Virginia right now that it honestly gets forgotten sometimes. With that group comes some great sprinters and hurdlers alike. Here we look at a select few, not necessarily by rank or time, that are excellent 400m runners and 300m hurdlers too.
Davian Booker (Massaponax) is truly the one who you have to start this list with. He is number two all-time in the 500m indoors and also in the top 10 all-time in the 300 to go along with his stellar 300 and 400m hurdle times. He has already opened the season up going sib 48 in the open 400 so he definitely fits the bill.
Trevor Curry (James River) is another name to watch. He ran 50.75 for the open 400 last year and 38.95 in the 300mH. By those times he ranks third amongst all athletes in the state combined. Indoors he showed even more speed over the 55m high hurdles which could mean an improvement this season.
Jamar Osifo (Phoebus) is your state leader based on the combined times from last year. He ran 50.17 in the 400 and 38.43 in the intermediate hurdles. His combined time of 1:28.60 is nearly a second faster than anyone else in the state.
Joey Loder (Glenvar) is your reminder to not forget about the small school athletes. Despite being from one of the smaller schools in the state, Joey can flat out run! He ranks second in the state based on the combined time of last year's 50.52 and 38.85.
Kiki Grubb (Patrick Henry - R) leads the way for her combined time between these two events from last year's times. In the two events she clocked a 42.04 in the 300m Hurdles and 56.65 in the 400 to lead the state in this metric by three full seconds.
Shakayla Lavender (Oscar Smith) is a multiple time state champion in the hurdles but she can also sprint pretty fast too! She ran 59.75 last year in the open 400 but her 41.67 clocking in the 300mH puts her ranked number two in the state for her combined time between the two last year.
Audrina Chew (Nansemond River) is a star. While many of the eyes of the state are on her teammate, Michailyn Rose, people are missing Audrina and her accolades. She was your indoor state champion over 55mH and 4th in the long jump. In the 400 she ran 58.57 last year and clocked a 44.86 in the intermediate hurdles. Those times rank her fifth in the state based on combined times.
Skyler Hope (Glen Allen) is attacking the events from a different angle. Skyler is the second fastest over 400m with her 57.55 last year combined with her 46.19 time in the 300mH. That shows us she has some great speed and endurance and the potential to lower her hurdle time in a big way this season.
