N.J. all-American Vena picks Virginia

All-American shot putter Nick Vena of Morristown (N.J.) made an oral commitment to the University of Virginia, DailyRecord.com reported Monday night. Vena is expected to sign a letter of intent in February. The last major signing of a New Jersey athlete to Virginia was Manalpan's Robby Andrews in 2009. Andrews won the indoor NCAA title in the 800 meters as a freshman last year. Vena chose Virginia over Penn State, Maryland and Georgia. Virginia coach Jason Vigilante is also a Morristown alum.
