Tribe Track and Field Hits Qualifying Marks at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, PA - William and Mary men's and women's track and field hit several NCAA Regional and IC4A/ECAC qualifying marks at the prestigious Penn Relays this evening.

Leading the day for the Tribe on the women's side was senior Jackie Kosakowski (Sauquoit, NY) who broke the NCAA Regional and ECAC qualifying standards in the 3,000m steeplechase with her heat-winning time of 10:49.93, as she clocked a personal record time for a three-second victory. Also having a strong evening of running was freshman Kaitlin Hurley (Portland, OR) who ran a personal record 17:26.70 in the 5,000m to qualify for ECACs in the event. The effort placed Hurley 16th in her heat.

On the men's side, three Tribe athletes merited IC4A qualifications. In the 5,000m, both Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, PA) and sophomore Anthony Arena (Manassas, VA) ran personal records for the qualification. Fitzgerald clocked a 14:27.98, some seven seconds better than this career fast time, while Arena timed a 14:36.41, a personal best by some eight seconds. Junior Sean Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, MA) also qualified for the IC4As in the 3,000m steeplechase by running a 9:12.44 for fourth in his heat. In the 10,000m, junior Charlie Hurt (Charlottesville, VA) missed an IC4A qualification by just .88 seconds with his time of 31:25.88.

The Penn Relays continue Friday and Saturday. On Saturday the Tribe will compete at Christopher Newport's Invitational and on Sunday the College will send runners to Stanford's Cardinal Invitational.
