Nine CNU Track Athletes Qualify For Track Nationals

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Nine Christopher Newport track athletes qualified for this weekend\'s NCAA Championship Meet held at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.

For the men, three athletes qualified. Greg Bolton qualified for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35. Joseph Owens will participate in the high jump. He qualified with a leap of 6\'8\".

Also qualifying was Rob Rodriquez in the triple jump with a mark of 46\'6\".

On the women\'s side, six qualified for Nationals. Happy Darcus, Tiffany Jones, Marquita Mines and Karen Simon will take part in the 4X100-meter relay. They qualified with a time of 47.89. Darcus also qualified for two other events, the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. She qualified for the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.04 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.83. Mines will also take part in a second event, the long jump. Her leap of 18\'10\" qualified her for nationals.

Also qualifying were Emily Low and Mara Winters. Low qualified with a time of 11:19.93 in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Winters qualified in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.99.

The NCAA Championships will be held this weekend, May 26-28 at Wartburg College
