Western Albemarle boys and girls cruise to district titles

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- The Western Albemarle boys and girls cross country squads cruised to district titles on the challenging Darden Towe Park 5K course in Charlottesville.

The Western Albemarle boys, defending state champions, look to be on that same path as state champions as they looked unbeatable at the Jefferson District Meet. Winning the boys race was Louisa sophomore sensation Daniel Kane who won in a time of 15:51. However, after Kane, it was all Western Albemarle Warriors, as they took the the next 5 places. With this fab 5 of senior Phillip Dejong (2nd, 16:32), senior Charlie Hurt (3rd, 16:38), junior Josiah Cadle (4th, 16:41), senior Owen Morrison (5th, 16:53), and sophomore Peter Burch (6th, 16:58), Western looks to the be the odds-on favorites to repeat as state champions.

The Louisa girls got off to a good start in the girls race as they put two runners ahead of Western Albemarle's #1, but the Lady Warriors had too much depth placing their entire squad of 7 runners in the top 15 for a total score of 27 points.
