At the 2005 Prefontaine Classic held at University of Oregon\'s Hayward Field, Fairfax native Alan Webb made history once again at the same track he set the high school mile record as he posted a new American record in the two mile with a second place finishing time of 8:11.48. Webb beat the old record of 8:11.59 set by Bob Kennedy in 1999. Winning the race was Kenya\'s Eliude Kipchoge in 8:07.68 as Kipchoge went through the first mile in 4:02 with Webb only a few steps behind. American\'s other great distance hope Dathan Ritzenhein finished sixth in 8:23.45.
