Maymont X-Country Festival Updates

Dear Coach,

I hope the “off-season” treated you well and everyone is geared up to get back in full-swing.  I wanted to remind you that registration for the Maymont X-Country Festival in Richmond, VA on September 24 is open here:  https://va.milesplit.com/meets/94829/registration.  If your team is already registered, we look forward to having you in Richmond in just over a month.  This (somewhat lengthy) e-mail also includes an update on what the 2011 edition of the Maymont X-Country Festival will look like.

The basics of the meet are the same as in year’s past:  It only costs $50 per division with a limit of 7 runners in the varsity divisions and an unlimited number of runners in the JV and Freshman divisions (top 7 scored).  The challenging, scenic course promises to deliver major meet experience for runners and teams of all levels, at a very affordable price.  Parking is free and there is no charge for admission to the festival for friends and family.  And, in our effort to host the greatest cross country meet in the country, we have made a few changes we are very excited about, including B-tag timing and the addition of a Friday night pasta dinner at a nearby hotel.

One of the significant changes to this year’s meet is the timing.  The company timing the meet this year is Kale Timing.  Kale offers the B-tag timing system which records a runner’s time without having to do anything other than attach the bib to their uniform.  B-tags offer all the accuracy of the ChampionChip without having to worry about returning chips and incurring “lost chip” fees.

Another major addition to this year’s meet is a pasta dinner on Friday, September 23 at the Ramada Plaza hotel, only 5 miles from Maymont Park.  The pasta dinner is a great opportunity for your runners to get fueled up with salad, rolls, pasta and dessert while listening to a guest speaker for only $13 per person.  The pasta dinner will start at 7 p.m. and is limited to 300 people.  Please send me an e-mail at will@sportsbackers.org to make reservations.

If you don’t want your weekend in Richmond to end with the meet on Saturday, we are offering tickets to Kings Dominion, Virginia’s premier amusement park featuring 15 thrill rides, for only $30 per person.  Tickets are only valid for Sunday, September 25.  More information on the park, located about 20 miles north of Richmond, can be found at www.kingsdominion.com.  Please send me an e-mail at will@sportsbackers.org to reserve your team’s tickets.

If you have any questions or need more information about any aspect of the Maymont X-Country Festival, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 804-285-9495 or will@sportsbackers.org.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you in September.

Best regards,

Will Dixon
