Southeastern Invite Day 1: Justin Burke US #1 6.38 55!

In a loaded finals field of the 55 meter dash at the Southeastern Invitational featuring current US leader Ayo Raymond of James Robinson and another rising star within his district in Damian Smith of Green Run, First Colonial senior Justin Burke made a defiant statement that he is still considered as arguably Virginia's high school best sprinter with a US #1 clocking of 6.38. Burke is within reach of the Virginia high school all-time top 25 list in the 55 meter dash, which has a current cut-off at 6.33. It was a smoking finals with four athletes under 6.50 in Burke (6.38), Raymond (6.44), Smith (6.45), and Western Branch's Mondryl Glover (6.49).

Next best performance of the evening belonged to Grassfield senior Trey Holloway who continues to distance himself from the next best hurdlers in Virginia after taking his previous state leading season best time of 7.48 down to a US #2 performance of 7.39 in the finals on Friday night at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. Holloway is also sniffing at joining the Virginia high school all-time top 25 club with Burke as the current cut-off time for joining the historic list of Virginia's greatest in the 55 meter hurdles is 7.36 currently.
