AMES, Iowa - Freshman Jessica Young and senior John Ciccarelli both had strong performances at the Iowa State Last-Chance Meet on Saturday, including Young smashing her own school record in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA Championship qualifying time.

Young placed third in her heat and fifth overall against some of the top 400-meter runners in the nation. Her time of 54.19 seconds smashed her own school record and qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Young will find out on Tuesday if her mark is good enough to place her in the 17 qualifiers for the NCAA Championships to be held next weekend at the University of Arkansas.

\"Jessica ran very well,\" Richmond women\'s coach Lori Taylor said. \"It\'s exciting for her to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She went up against some of the top 400-meter runners in the nation this afternoon and performed at the highest level.\"

Ciccarelli was the fourth collegian to cross the finish line in the 3,000 meters, finishing sixth overall in a personal best time of 8:28.56. His 1,500-meter split was 4:08 and his mile split time was 4:24.
