Jullien Named Southeast Region Athlete of the Year

Senior earns award for second consecutive season


BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior Spyridon Jullien was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region indoor athlete of the year Monday, as voted on by the coaches.

Jullien won the weight throw national title on Saturday, March 11, in Fayetteville, Ark., with a throw of 23.73m (77\'10.25\"). The mark is a personal best, school record and is the fourth-best effort in NCAA history.

This marks the second consecutive year that Jullien has won the award. Last year, he won the award after winning Virginia Tech\'s first-ever national championship in any sport with a throw of 23.18m (76\'0.75\").

He was named the USTFCCCA outdoor athlete of the year after winning the hammer throw with a mark of 70.43m (219\'11\").

Jullien will be up for the USTFCCCA indoor athlete of the year, which will be announced next week.
