Meet Information

  • DATES: Friday and Saturday, May 24 & 25, 2002
  • PLACE: Richard A. Hollader Track - Sports Backers Stadium
  • FACILITIES: 400 Meter, 8 lane, all-weather track. Concrete shot and discus throwing surfaces, all-weather surfaces on LJ/TJ, PV runways and HJ surface. All-weather spikes of 1/4" or less and flats may be used on the all-weather surfaces. Locker rooms are not available. Athletes should come dressed to run. Restrooms will be open in the stadium.
  • Admission: $5.00 each day. VHSCA & District passes will be accepted. NO FACULTY PASSES ACCEPTED. Athletes will be admitted by uniform and competitor's number.
  • Equipment: Meet management will furnish starting blocks. All other equipment, team or personal must be furnished by the competing schools. UNIFORM & JEWELRY RULES WILL BE ENFORCED.
  • Rules: 2002 EDITION OF NATIONAL FEDERATION OF STATE HIGH SCHOOLS TRACK & FIELD RULES AND VHSL RULES.
  • Scoring: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1
  • Awards: Central Region Policy
  • All Academic: Athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better may be considered for the Central Region All-Academic Outdoor Track & Field Team. PLEASE PLACE AN ASTERIK BY THE NAME OF EACH ALL-ACADEMIC CANDIDATE ON YOUR ENTRY FORM.
  • Entry Limitations: Regional entries for all events including relays are limited to the top 6 finishers in each district meet plus those that have met the 2002 regional event standards and have verified same by submitting an official regional verification form.
  • Entry Forms: Official regional entry forms which facilitate computer date entry have been provided and MUST be used. Do not use the regional entry form from the principal's handbook.
  • Entry Deadline: Two (2) copies of the official entry form along with regional verification forms must be submitted to your district meet director at the conclusion of your district meet.
  • Scratches: Fax (358-8397) any scratches to Jim Holdren by 4:30 PM on Monday, May 20. Any entry scratched after this deadline will be ineligible for any subsequent running event. You may write "confirmed" at the top of each copy of your entry if you intend to make no changes.
  • Relay Declaration: Relay teams will be declared on a relay card provided at the meet at the time of event check-in. Six (6) athletes may be listed any four (4) of whom may run. The relay will count as an event only for those four (4) athletes who actually compete. ALL RELAY RUNNERS AND ALTERNATES MUST BE LISTED ON YOUR ENTRY FORM.
  • Weigh-In: The discus weigh-in will take place on Friday, May 24 at 2:00 PM and shot and pole vault weigh-in will take place on Saturday, May 25, at 2:00 PM at the SOUTH STORAGE SHED AT SPORTS BACKERS STADIUM. All implements not meeting specifications will be impounded until the end of the meet. Only those implements properly inspected and so marked may be used at the meet.
  • State Meet Qualifying: Individuals placing in the top 6 and relay teams placing in the top 3 in the regional championship meet and those individuals qualify for the state AA championship meet. Two (2) copies of your state meet entry form along with any state verification forms must be filed with the regional meet director before leaving the regional meet.
  • Regional T-Shirts: Special regional championship meet t-shirts will be on sale at the championship meet. Please inform all participants.
  • Radios, CD & Tape Players: No radios, boom boxers, etc. will be allowed in the stadium. Individual walkmen with earphones that can only be heard by the individuals wearing them will be allowed, BUT NOT IN THE COMPETITION AREAS.

    A school may enter only those athletes and relay teams that have placed in the top six (6) places in their respective district championship meets or that have met the regional qualifying standards in a meet of four (4) or more teams and verified by the meet director on the official regional meet verification form. Regardless of the number of qualified athletes in a particular event, no school may start more than six (6) in any individual events and no more than one relay team per relay event.
