Team Composition:
This scrimmage is not bound by VHSL restrictions and limitations. Therefore we ask coaches to ensure that all runners on their rosters meet age requirements specified and the follow team affiliation rules:

To affiliate as a team in any division, your athletes should be registered for fall sports in your homeschool program, your private school, or your public school district. (For example, it is fine to let athletes signed up in your athletic department for Soccer or football to join your cross country teams for this conditioning scrimmage. Younger athletes may run up.
While we want to maximum participation in this pre-season challenge, it is not appropriate to let runners join your roster if they are not officially participating in part of your organizations sports program in the Fall of 2018. Those not eligible to affiliate with a team are welcome to register as individuals. Please contact Jamesbascom@hotmail.com with any specific question on team affiliation.

Course:
All three races utilize the 2K base loop comprised of mostly grass and less than 200 meters of double track dirt. The 2K loop features the Anthill (aprox 35% elevation climb for 125 Meters); the Chlorine Climb (45% elevation for 35 meters) and a 550 meter decline at 10%-20% from the top of the course to the bottom. Once at the bottom there is a relatively flat 500 meters before un-named ascents climb back to complete the loop.

On the back side of the 2K loop, the 3K and 5K races cross a paved road to incorporate a 1K loop (making a figure eight) which is predominantly a double track dirt and grass path which boasts an ascent up Bear Growl Hill. Bear Growl maintains a 20%-45 % grade for a seemingly eternal 200 Meters. The second half of the 1K loop shares the 2K loop descent before rejoining the main loop.

The 5K runners appear adjacent to the finish line at the 3K point in the race (having done each loop once and then complete one more full circuit of just the 2K loop. All races finish with a steep 20 meter climb that levels off to a gentle 5% uphill grade for the entire 175 meter sprint to the finish. Predominantly packed dirt and grass course is appropriate for spikes, but four paved road crossings are unavoidable in the 5K.

Lizard maps are available upon request in advance and will be sent out to all registered teams.
