52nd Annual Apple Blossom Invitational 2020

Winchester, VA

Meet Information

NOTE: due to the COVID-19 situation, this year's meet has been POSTPONED. Should the VHSL decide to allow spring sports competitions this summer, the meet may be held in some format during July.  We understand the many difficulties in fielding full teams during the summer, so if held, it would probably be held in an "open" format.  Teams who have already paid entry fees can have their fees credited to 2021 or request a refund.  Please contact Craig Woshner if you have any questions.  Stay safe and keep training!

Location: James Wood High School, Winchester, VA.

Date: Saturday, April 25, 2020.

Time: 8:10 AM Coaches Meeting. Field events will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and the 3200 meter relay will begin at 9:45 AM.

Director: Craig Woshner, Athletic Director

email: woshnerc@frederick.k12.va.us

Office: (540) 667-5226 ext. 84238

* Awards: Trophies to top three teams in boys and girls divisions.

* Medals to top six in individual and relay events.

* Meet MVP awards for both boys and girls.

Individual medals will be given to coaches along with results at the conclusion of the meet. Team trophies and MVP awards will be presented at the conclusion of the meet.

Entry Fee: $275.00 boys and girls or $137.50 for boys/girls only. Please make checks payable to James Wood High School. Entry fees are due by April 18, 2020. Field is limited to 20 teams.

Entries: Entries must be entered by Tuesday, April 21 at 8:00 PM. Teams may enter TWO (2) athletes per event in all events. Please be honest with entry standards to maintain integrity of the seeding. One (1) relay team per school in each relay event.

You will need to submit your entries using the MileSplit meet entry system which uses the Hy-Tek manager programs. Directions for entering your athletes can be found at: http://www.milesplit.us/pages/Online_Meet_Reg_Instructions and simply hit the green registration button on the Apple Blossom meet site.

Scratches: We have already moved back the entry deadline in order for coaches and athletes to enter times from the preceding weekend. If an athlete scratches from a running event after the Wednesday scratch deadline, that runner may not be added to another event, including relays. No substitutions after the Tuesday entry deadline!

Implements: Shots and discs will be weighed and verified in the press box starting at 8:00 AM.

Participation: If any out-of-state schools participate, we are required to follow NFHS participation limits. Athletes are permitted a maximum of four events (any combination of running and/or field events). Additionally, school must still follow VHSL entry limitations: maximum of three running events, and athletes running in the 3200 meter run will still be restricted to one additional running event. If all schools are from Virginia, we will follow the three running event/unlimited field event rule, with the exception of the 3200 meter rule. This decision will be announced well before the entry deadline.

Coaches Meeting:

Scratches only. A field competitor may scratch without penalty. A running competitor may scratch from an event on the day of the meet and still be eligible to compete in other events for which he/she was registered; however, they cannot be entered into other individual events or relays. Again, no substitutions are permitted. Violations of these rules will result in disqualification from the event and the rest of the meet.

Miscellaneous:

No changes after the entry deadline of Tuesday, April 21 at 8:00 PM. Coaches are solely responsible for checking their entries prior to submission! Participants must report to the bullpen by second call. Absence for the third call will result in a scratch for that event. Only athletes in the bullpen are permitted on the infield. All other coaches, athletes, and spectators must remain in the stands.

Three attempts for all field events trials in flights. The top nine will advance to finals for an additional three attempts.

High jump starting heights (five alive): Girls 46 Boys 56
