Rocky Mount, VA

Meet Information

To keep numbers within state guidelines as much as possible, and to facilitate

distancing and COVID-19 safety, the following measures will be taken:

1. All adults and spectators need to wear a mask

2. Set up your team tents at the white poles we'll have set out.  You can set up at whichever you

want, but it needs to be at one of the poles. This will maintain some spacing between the teams.

3. The race is being chip timed by Run Roanoke, so there is no group of adults working the finish,

no chute to clog, and no reason to stop.  When runners finish, they need to walk as quickly as

possible away from the finish to their team tent.

4. The most crowded spot at a XC race is the finish line.  For one thing, everyone should already be

wearing masks. In addition, do not breach the flagging that will be set along the finish straight and

space yourselves out as much as possible on either side.

5. COVID SCREENING  - Use the form attached to pre-screen all your athletes and coaches

before you leave.  CHA will screen spectators and visitors at the parking

6. There will be no common water at the meet or finish line. Each team should bring

water, gatorade, and snacks for their own team.

7. Our restroom/locker rooms are inside the gym.  Going into the gym should only be

for access to the bathrooms, no hanging out or congregating in the gym.  Coaches,

please enforce this for your group.

8. Start boxes will be marked for each school, proportionately wide for their number of

runners, and spaced apart significantly in an approximate arc.

9. Schedule

The #1 measure that is going to help us keep the numbers down so we can have this

meet is a split schedule. I borrowed it from another VACA school who used it very

effectively recently. If you have any questions about its details, please email me early. We

need teams to abide by this schedule.

Basically, the meet will be split into middle school events in the am, and varsity events

after, with a transition time for the first group to leave and the second to arrive.

Middle school events

7:30 MS teams and spectators arrive

9:00 MS girls 3K race

9:45 MS boys 3K race

10:30 MS awards and departure of all MS athletes and spectators

(Beginning as soon as possible from 10:30, middle school runners AND spectators

need to leave the campus.)

Varsity events

11:00 varsity teams and spectators arrive

11:30 varsity girls 5k race

12:30 varsity boys 5K race

1:15 Varsity awards

Please note: the middle school events will be rolling within their schedule, as will the

varsity events. This means the girls MS race will not start until 9:00, but if the MS boys

race is ready to go at 9:30, it will start. Which will also make the awards earlier.

But regardless, the varsity girls race will not start until 11:30. Then the varsity events

will also use a rolling schedule if possible.
