  • IMPORTANT SAT INFORMATION: Saturday, October 11th, 2003 is an SAT testing date. We have accommodated those teams with athletes testing by pushing the start of the meet back into the afternoon. Also, if your SAT testing athletes would be interested in taking their SAT's at a nearby school, there are two local SAT testing centers in close proximity to Pocahontas State Park with Manchester High School (Test Center Code 47222) and Thomas Dale High School (Code 47220). Directions from Thomas Dale High School to Pocahontas State Park. If your SAT athletes are willing to take their tests at Manchester or Thomas Dale, make sure they go to collegeboard.com and register early before all the available seats are filled up at both testing centers. Regular registration deadline for the October 11th SAT is September 9th, while the late registration deadline is September 13th.
  • When: Saturday, October 11, 2003
  • Where: Pocahontas State Park - Chesterfield, VA. Just 20 miles from downtown Richmond, the capital of Virginia, Pocahontas State Park has been one of the more popular parks in the state park system.
  • Directions: From I-95, take Exit 61 and go west on Route 10 to Route 655 which is Beach Road; or take Exit 67, go north on Route 150 to Route 10; go east to Beach Road. The park is four miles on right; or take Route 288 from I-95 to Route 10 East and go one mile to Beach Road. Follow park signs from there. However, strongly recommend using Mapquest directions.
  • Entries: You may enter up to 7 athletes in the varsity races. You may enter up an unlimited number of athletes in the junior varsity races.
  • Race Divisions: Boys - Varsity, Junior Varsity. Girls - Varsity, Junior Varsity. Only 8th, 9th, and 10th graders are allowed to compete in junior varsity races.
  • Sanctioned: Virginia and all border states
  • Entry Fee: $100.00 per school or $50.00 per team or $10.00 per individual. Fee should be accompanied with entry if mailed or paid on meet day with faxed entries. Make checks payable to Brandon Miles.
  • Late Fee: There will be a $25.00 late fee if the check is not received by day of the meet.
  • Entry Deadline: All entries must be RECEIVED by Wednesday, October 7, 2003. Entries can be mailed or faxed.
  • Course: 5000 meters. Variation in terrain with grass, trail, packed dirt, and approximately quarter mile stretch of pavement. Course map to be posted soon.
  • Awards: Trophies to the top two teams in each varsity races. Medals to top 15 finishers in each race.
  • Parking: Only one way into park. Pocahontas State Park parking is regulated by park staff and the same parking fees as any other vehicle that would enter the park at any other time will apply. Parking will be $4 per passenger vehicle and $15 per bus.
  • Trash: Please do not leave any and make sure your team cleans up your area following the meet.
  • T-shirts: Meet t-shirts will be sold at the meet.
  • Concessions: Drinks and food will be sold at the meet.
  • Numbers: Race numbers for both boys and girls will be found in the packets. You may pick your up packets at the coaches meeting. All competing athletes are required to wear their numbers. Make sure your athletes get the correct ones as well.
  • Jewelry: The rule of no jewelry will be enforced
  • Hats: Competing athletes are not permitted to wear hats or bandannas during their races.
  • Uniforms: Racing tops must be tucked or hang below the waistband and cannot be knotted in the back.
  • Chute: We will have workers in the chute to make sure athletes get through as quickly as possible, but please advise your athletes to make sure they get through as quickly as possible. Any athlete swinging, cursing, or verbally abusing any workers will be disqualified.
  • Quick Score: All races will be quick scored. Please return the score sheets as quickly as possible.
  • Awards: Top 15 finishers will be given their medals as they come through the chute. Team trophies can be picked up once team scores are announced.
  • Results: Will be posted quickly after each race. Results will be posted on milestat.com after the meet.
    Clean - up: Please help keep Pocahontas State Park clean. Trash bags will be available. Please keep your team and bus area clean.
  • Tents: Can be erected in the park field, but must not be placed in the path of the actual race course..
  • Any vandalism or theft of meet property or Pocahontas State Park property will result in an automatic disqualification, report filled with the VHSL, and prosecution.
