In the boys race turned into a dual between Norfolk Academy's Ian Granger and First Flight's Ryan Wallace. They took the pace out in 5:35, came through the second mile in 11:02 and settled on the idea of deciding the race in the last 300M on the track. Wallace moved first but Granger held and pulled away the last 150M to win in 17:12. First Flight however won the boys race over Norfolk Academy.
The girls race was very similar. Nobody wanted to lead early and Heather Clagett from Norfolk Academy and Madison Strickland from Denbigh Baptist trotted through 2 miles at 13:32. Clagett started pushing the pace with about 1000M to go but could not break away from Strickland. They were neck and neck with 150M to go and Strickland pulled away for the win in 20:23. The Norfolk Academy girls did hold on for a close win over First Flight.
