CONWAY, S.C. – Senior
Lori Crotts' (New Castle, Va./Craig County) new outdoor 3,000m school record highlighted competition for the Radford women's track and field team at this weekend's Coastal Carolina Invitational.
Crotts crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 10:14.76 and bested a ten-year-old school mark (Meghan McLaughlin, 2001-10:42.00).
Aimee Veatch (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), the 2010 Big South Indoor Field Performer of the Year, placed first in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.56m (182'3”).
Freshman jumpers
Elaine Derricott (Richmond, Va./Henrico) and
Jasia Richardson (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) each placed in the top-five in their respective field events. Derricott finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.55m (18'2.50”), while Richardson placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.80m (38'8.75). The high jump competition saw senior
Nikki Roseberry (Dublin, Va./Pulaski) tie for fourth place with a height of 1.60m (5'3).
On the track ,
Britney Whittaker (Pilot, Va./Radford) placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 57.94 and clocked in at 26.31 for the 200m. Senior
Brittany Christian (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) paced the highlanders in the distance events, as she finished seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:54.44.
The Radford women's track and field team will be back on the track March 19-20 at the Wake Forest Open
