KELSO AND RICHARDS SET RECORDS AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS


Day 2 Results

Raschad Kelso and #Kevin Richards# of the Radford men's track and field team set new school records in the 200m and the decathlon on day two of the 2010 Big South Championships at Bagwell/Settles Track and Field Stadium.

Kelso finish second in his preliminary heat and crossed the finish line in 21.30, a tenth of a second better than his previous school record of 21.31, which he set at last year's Big South Championship.

Richards placed eight and bested his previous school record of 5,633 points, which he set at last year's Big South Championship by 54 points with a score of 5,688 points.

In the field events, #Matt Dobson# reached a distance of 14.94m (49'0.25) to finish fourth in the shot put, while his teammate Justin Smith reached a distance of 14.41m (47'3.50”) to place seventh.

Also highlighting the competition, Tony Brown Jr. reached a season-best height of 2.06m in the high jump (6'9”) to place second.

#Bryan Wallace# ran a season-best time of 15.243 in the 110m hurdles to reach the finals, while Brett Olinger# crossed the finish in 54.30 to advance to the next round. #Drew Hall# placed second in his heat with a time of 1:53.93 to also reach the next round.

#Olajuwon Jones# reached the finals in the 200m and 400m with a time of 21.42 and 48.20, respectively. #Kaise White# notched a second place finish in his heat of the 400m, with a time of 49.11 to advance. Jordan Wynder recorded a season-best time of 48.93 in the 400m and placed third in his heat to reach the finals. Austin Cuffee posted a season-best time of 21.52 to reach the finals in the 200m.

The Highlanders finished day one of competition in fifth place with 35 points.

The final day of competition will begin tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
