CHRISTIAN SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS


Day 2 Results

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior captain Brittany Christian (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) of the Radford women's track and field team set a new school record in the 3,000m steeplechase and placed second on day two of the 2010 Big South Championships at Bagwell/Settles Track and Field Stadium.

Christian posted a personal-best time of 11:03.33 and bested the nine-year-old mark of Kara Price by seven seconds. The race had been close from the start, it wasn't until the last 50-meters that the lead runner finally pulled away from Christian.

#Kaylor Vaugh# hit a height of 1.66m (5'5. 25”) in the high jump to finish on the podium in second place. #Aimee Veatch# (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), the 2010 Big South hammer throw champion and school record holder, put up a mark of 12.42m (40'9”) in the shot put to finish in sixth place.

Britney Whittaker crossed the finish line first in her heat with a season-best time of 2:14.24 in the 800m, while Maggie Wissler also advanced with a season-best time of 2:18.73.

#Kayla Christian# notched a season-best time of 25.28 and a third place finish in her heat of the 200m to advance to the finals,

The Highlanders finished day one of competition in third place with 37.50 points.

The second day of competition will begin tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
