MORSE ADVANCES TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kyle Morse (Hingham, Mass./Northfield-Mount Herman) of the Radford men's track and field team advanced to the NCAA National Championships in the hammer throw this afternoon at Irwin Belk Track and Field Stadium.

Morse reached a distance of 63.30m (207'8”) to place within the top 12 and advance to the national championship meet. He will be making he second appearance at Nationals, as he placed 11th in 2008.

“It wasn't my greatest performance when it comes down to the distance I wanted to reach, but this meet is all about advancing," said Morse. “Once I knew that I was in and I wasn't going to get bumped I tried to hit a big throw. This competition took longer then it normally would, but come nationals I will be more prepared and ready. “

Also in the field events, senior #Matt Dobson# reach a mark of 53.70m (176'2”) to finish 40th.

On the track, Olajuwon Jones crossed the finish line in 33rd place with a time of 47.22. Five-tenths of a second separated Jones from advancing to the next round of competition on Friday. His time of 47.22 would have placed him 29th in the west region and just two-tenths of s second out of the next round in the west as well.

The Regional competition continues tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with the men's javelin competition.
