MORSE PLACES 8TH AT NATIONALS; EARNS SECOND ALL-AMERICA HONOR

FINAL RESULTS

EUGENE, Oregon – Radford's Kyle Morse placed second among American competitors and eighth overall in the hammer throw at the 2010 NCAA National Championships to earn All-America status for the second time in three years Friday at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

“Kyle's is a two-time All-America," said head coach Brent Chumbley. "He scored at the national meet and not a lot of people score at the national meet." His first throw wasn't a huge throw, but it was a solid throw. He was in third place after the first flight and in this meet it is all about passing people. It was hard to sit through the second flight and watch, but I am really proud and excited about Kyle's performance.”

“He is the first Radford male track athlete to score at the NCAA National outdoor meet and it just goes to show, that if you train and put in the time and effort you can succeed,” said Chumbley

Morse's top mark came on his first throw, which reached 64.80m (212' 7”).

“It feels great and I am really happy with my results,” commented Morse. “It was a very competitive field and there were a lot of good throwers. It feels great to be a two-time All-America. I am really happy with my results and the competitive effort that I showed. it was a tough competition with a lot of good throwers.”

A three-time all-conference performer, Morse became the fourth Highlander to earn All-America honors with an 11th place showing at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

Morse will be back in the cage for the 2010 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships taking place on June 23-27 at Drake University.

He qualified for the championships with a third place finish and a toss of 65.36 (214'5) in the hammer throw competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
