BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshmen
Brian Gorwitz and
Jessica Arneson both finished in 18th place to lead the Radford men's and women's cross country teams at the Big South Preview on Saturday morning.
Gorwitz finished the 8K at the Blacksburg Middle School course with a time of 27:37.30 in leading the men's team to a fifth-place overall finish. 20 seconds behind Gorwitz was sophomore
Sam Keltner, who crossed the finish line at 27:57.98, placing 23rd out of 63 total runners.
A cluster of Highlanders finished within ten places of each other. Freshman
Chris Weeks placed 34th with a time of 28:49.46 and just behind Weeks was
Joey Hannah who completed the course at 29:04.81.
“Brian (Gorwitz) was our leader today and Sam (Keltner) had a decent run, said head coach
Sean Bossman. “I think Joey (Hannah) ran the best consistently, looking the strongest all the way through the end.”
Arneson was one of three Highlander women to participate in the race, finishing the 5K with a personal-best time of 20:19.07. Teammate
Ashley Lounsbury wrapped up her day by also recording a personal-best 20:45.69 to place 26th.
“The course was surprising for the women's race, a lot faster than I expected. Our women were depleted due to injury, only having three finish today, but those three ran well and I was proud of them.”
