CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Freshmen
Brian Gorwitz and
Ashley Lounsbury were named Big South Cross Country Men's and Women's Runners of the Week, as announced by the League office on Wednesday.
Racing to a 19th place finish out of 43 runners at the James Madison Invitational, Gorwitz recorded a time of 26:46.30 in leading the men's squad to a third place finish at the event.
Lounsbury finished in the top-10 among collegiate competitors, completing the 5.2-kilometer race in 21:03.00 to also guide the women's team to a third place showing.
“Both Brian (Gorwitz) and Ashley (Lounsbury) had great opening races to begin their collegiate careers and were the leaders for us in the meet,” said head coach
Sean Bossman. “I'm happy for both of them because it's such an honor to be recognized by the Big South, but it's still early in the season and I believe their times will continue to improve with hard work.”
Gorwitz and Lounsbury will be back in action when the Highlanders host the Big South Preview on Saturday, Sept. 25. The men's race will begin at 10:30 a.m., while the women follow at 11:30 a.m.
