Getting a quick start on the field is J.R. Tucker's Thuom Mathiang.	Coming up to challenge Mathiang is Atlee's Daniel Williams.

Williams takes the lead from Mathiang midway through the race.	Williams with a stride length lead over Mathiang.

Mathiang comes back on the final lap to kick past Williams as heads into the final stretch.	Mathiang crosses the line in a time of 2:41.90, which was good enough to win the Virginia Invitational division of the meet, but was not the fastest time of the day. Williams finished not too far behind in a time of 2:43.33.

The next pack of runners after Mathiang and Williams comes in a cluster.	The fastest 1000 meter time of the day came out of the Metro Invitational division as Maggie Walker's Rohan Patel won his heat in a time of 2:40.21.
