Southern Track Classic Preview: Records To Fall?

Hurdles & Relays

You really can't tell when Western Branch enters a fast relay time if they will bring the heat or focus on getting experience. If they do run their heat though then we are potentially in store for a new US #1 in this event. They ran 9:03 at Penn Relays and with E.C. Glass in their section should be able to go fast.

On the boys' side Fauquier, Deep Run, Hickory, LCA, and Mountain View want to give a semi-preview of the 5A State final (plus a couple 4A teams). This one should be fun and very close to sub eight.

Elizabeth Seton, Western Branch, and Thomas Dale are all seeded very close together in the girls 4x100 with Western Branch way ahead in the 4x400 on paper. Even their "B" team is a sub 3:54 team if they all run.

Western Branch's boys relays are huge favorites in both 4x100 and 4x400.

In the SMR's (200-200-400-800) we are in for a very fast show in the girls race as Patriot tries to destroy the meet record by over 10+ seconds and break 4:00. The boys' race has an entire section separated by just 6.4 seconds so needless to say it is going to come down to handoffs and positioning on the 400 leg.

Being able to have clean handoffs not around a crowded group will be the most crucial thing here.

In the hurdles Ashlyn Nolan and Mallory Pitchford are the girls to watch in the high hurdles with Grant Holloway being the favorite on the boys' side.

In the long and grueling 300H Varina's Tenea Washington is looking to notch up another win after having a huge weekend at Dogwood in both hurdles. She is going to attack that first hurdle, that is for sure.

Finally in the boys' race we will see Grant Holloway attempt to not only break the meet record but with fresh legs go after the state record. It should be fun to watch.
