Distance Preview
In the circular races we could see some of the biggest names in VA history competing against each other and if that doesn't get you excited we don't know what will. Headlining this group is the sole high schooler in the field for VA, Kate Murphy who is a rising senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School. She will be competing in the 1500m run against Sarah Brown (Bowman) who actually holds the state record for 1600 and 800. It would be spectacular to see athletes over 10 years apart in age competing against each other for VA.
Sarah Brown most notably was in the news and every morning talk show for her training through pregnancy. Despite just giving birth a few months ago, she enters the competition with a 4:03.20 qualifying time and as the third seed. Murphy enters at 4:07.21.
Team VA will also have three men competing in three events with former AAA State XC Champs Jason Witt (Midlothian) competing in the 10K and Sean McGorty (Chantilly) in the 1500 and 5K.
Sean will be joined by Thomas Curtin (Loudoun County) in the 5K.
