Boys Race of Champions
The boys race could very well have been one of the best 5K's all year in the United States. Hasty and Principe took to the course on a mission and never looked back. Their lead group quickly dropped the VA aces and put on a show for the fans at Great American. Both runners demolished the previous course and meet record.
Though Team VA did not win the race, it did see some strong performances from quite a few guys. Leading the way were the Loudoun Valley teammates of Morris and Bogucki who finished 7th and 9th respectively. Sean Grimm of James Madison and Conor Lyons of Lake Braddock finished 21st and 25th to both also medal.
The real storyline though entering the competition was how legit Loudoun Valley was as a team. Leading into the weekend they had only raced hilly, difficult courses and thus it was hard to judge them against teams that had run on much faster courses. Let's just say they did not disappoint. Against very tough competition they held their own and finished third with 166 points. Their team averaged a blistering 15:51 on this course or an average of running the 19th fastest time in the state!
This race showed us that Lake Braddock and James Madison is going to be a battle at states and that Blacksburg means business. But the real message this race had was that Loudoun Valley is the real deal and NXN is their real target this season.
