5A & 6A State Meet Preview

6A Boys State Championship

Starting with the team title race things are going to be lopsided in Western Branch's favor. Not only do they have Micaiah Harris leading the way in the sprints but they also have solid relays, a national champion jumper, and some strong distance runners as well.

Just behind them for the team title race though should be Oscar Smith and Lake Braddock who both combined star power and depth into the state meet. All three teams look to be strong enough to win any other classification's title.

Individually there will also be some big names competing this weekend. Probably the biggest of those names is Chantilly's Brandon McGorty. He will be competing in 1600, 800, and 4x4 this weekend. In each event he will have tough competition from Oscar Smith's Sneaky Pete (Peter Smith) and Braddock's Andrew Delvecchio, and Oakton's Ahmed Hassan. Don't forget Colgan's Antonio Lopez too who could be  a sleeper pick for one of the distance titles.

As you can see this event is going to be the toughest to win but almost as tough will be the Boys 200 and Boys high jump which are very elite and closely seeded as well.

Finally our biggest storyline to watch heading into this meet will be the Boys 400 featuring a huge showdown between Micaiah Harris and Freedom's Igo Grimes. This should be one of, if not the, fastest 400 finals in states history.
