Don't get us wrong, we have had some great rivalries in the past couple years, but none could reach this level. The best part of this rivalry though is that both of these guys return and are actually able to race often being in the same classification.
Thus far the two athlete have raced three times against each other head-to-head individually. Once in XC and then twice in track over the last three years splitting them down the middle. Theo got the last win but Sam is on another level right now and can't be counted out.
At 4A States it is uncertain what events they will be in but you can certainly bet we are hoping for the 1600m showdown between them. Both will likely have the 4x800 that Friday and Sam will have the 3200 Saturday morning. That means it could be a tough 1600 for both athletes with Theo likely also running the 800 later in the day.
This year's state championships though is just the start of something great. It is the second of many showdowns between these two athletes that will only get more high stakes as the months go on. In their quest to beat one another they will also likely make each other much much better too.
