Running Store City-County Champs: Brewer VA #1 38.38 300H, Karabinus 2:19, Walker sprint triple

Wednesday evening's Running Store City-County Championships gathered the best athletes in Prince William County and City of Manassas at Woodbridge High School. All running events were held today, while the remaining field events will be held on Thursday at Gar-Field High School which will feature some talented athletes including shot put state champion Isaiah Simmons of Woodbridge.

Top individual performances on Wednesday included a 2:19.57 performance in the 800 meter run by Ariel Karabinus of Osbourn Park (1600 meter winner as well) and a state best 38.38 performance by Devin Brewer of Potomac Senior in the 300 meter hurdles.

Brewer actually beat the previous VA #1 time of 38.60 held by his teammate and AAA state indoor 55 meter hurdles runner-up Anthony Williams who did not compete on Wednesday, which makes for an incredible hurdling pair at Potomac Senior. Brewer also won the 110 meter hurdles with a swift clocking of 15.08, which ranks sixth fastest in the state currently. Eboni Strawder made it a clean sweep of the hurdles races for the Panthers as the Potomac Senior's top female hurdler took first place honors in the 100 (16.35) and 300 (47.97) meter hurdles.

Osbourn Park's Breanna Walker had an incredible triple in the sprints winning all three events with times of 12.60 in the 100, 58.15 in the 400,  and 25.86 in the 200 meter dash. The Northwest Region champion indoors in the 55 and 300 meter dash, Walker is looking to continue to develop only as a sophomore and become competitive in state competition.

Battefield's Nathan Moyer was part of two thrilling finishes and experienced both sides of winning and losing with his 1:58.88 and two hundredths of a second win in the 800 meter run against Gar-Field's Justin Pittman (1:58.90) then being run down at the line by Osbourn Park's Garrett Smith (400 meter runner-up) in the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay with both schools running solid times of 3:28. Moyer won the 1600 meter earlier in 4:39 to start his triple.

Gar-Field's talented underclassmen sprinter Alston Johnson made easy work of the competition in his victories in the 100 (11.10) and 200 (22.22) and also could have a third win of the day in the 4x100 meter relay as his anchor leg moved his team into first place but a unsportsmanslike disqualification cost his team a first place showing in the event. The Gar-Field coaches used it is a teachable moment for their young star who bounced back later with a win in the 200 meter dash.

The Osbourn Park girls are well ahead in the first place and virtually have sealed the team title prior to the field events with their day one team score of 166 points, while the Osbourn Park (99 pts) and Battlefield (97 pts) boys find themselves in a tight contest into Thursday's events at Gar-Field High School.
