Cavaliers Fare Well at NCAA East Regional Meet

Hoos look to gain entry to NCAA National Championships

University of Virginia track and field athlete Inge Jorgensen won the javelin competition at the NCAA East Regional meet, tossing a 167\' 11\" to take the gold medal and a berth in the NCAA national championships, marking the fourth time she has advanced to the NCAA national championships. Teammate Billie Jo Grant was the runner-up in the discus, throwing a 172\' 5\" to take the silver. McGavock Dunbar also finished in the top five, running a 1:50.18 in the 800m run.

Jorgensen\'s teammate Annie Bobiak finished sixth, throwing a 152\' 10\", while David Sullivan was also sixth, leaping 16\' 7.25\" in the pole vault. Erin Crawford took seventh in the 400 hurdles, running a 59.24, while Tomika Ferguson also scored for the Cavaliers, taking eighth in the triple jump with a 41\' 8.75\" (w+) jump. Janine Ricci ran a personal-best 10:36.34 in the steeplechase.

Final declarations for the NCAA national meet will take place next week. The NCAA finals will be held in Sacramento, Calif. on June 8-11. Full results listed below:
