New Indoor Track in Winston-Salem, NC

An indoor track facility is being completed and opening this month in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The facility is found within an old Josten's warehouse and includes a 200 meter flat mondo track surface, a 100 meter warm-up track straightaway, multiple runways for several field events including the pole vault.There will be two sanctioned high school meets at the JDL Fast Track Facility this season in late January and early February, but both are sanctioned for only North Carolina schools. The state of North Carolina is in dire need for more indoor facilities for their high school indoor season, which essentially is a season of outdoor polar bear meets with the exception of the two meets held at UNC's indoor track facility and the state championships also at UNC. They will be hosting a post-season (not high school sanctioned) meet which is open to all high school athletes on February 25th & 26th, but is the same date as VHSL indoor state championship meets. The meet on that date could be a meet opportunity for the private school athletes whose championship season ends earlier the month and other athletes who did not qualify for the VHSL State Championships.
While this year the facility is being completed just in time to test run a few meets at the tail-end of the season, the JDL Fast Track facility expects to be busy next indoor season (2012-2013) with a full slate of college, high school, masters, and open track meets. One source expects there to be as many 6 major invitational high school meets with several of the meets to open for border state teams including Virginia. Especially for teams in the Southwest corner of the state who often regularly compete at Liberty University, the indoor track in Winston-Salem could be an appealing alternative as well as teams from other parts of Virginia looking for new competition and facilities to compete in.
