FREDRICKSBURG, VA -- Seniors Matt Gutridge of Caroline and Kristyn Shiring of North Stafford were able to take control of their races and set their own pace as both went onto big victories at the Chancellor Invitational held on the slow and treacherous Loriella Park 5K course in Fredricksburg. Gutridge won by 26 second margin over James Wood senior Nick Kelchner with his time of 16:44 and Shiring won by even a large margin of 51 seconds over James Wood sophomore Kristen Novara with her time of 19:46.1.

However, Kelchner coming in at a time of 17:10, was able to enjoy a team title as the James Wood boys won fairly easily placing 5 runners in the top 11 for a team score of 36 points. James Wood is currently ranked fourth in Group AA and should be in the hunt of things for a state title come November.

Colonial Forge, led by junior Michael Porter as he placed 3rd in a time of 17:18, the Eagles took second to James Wood with a team score of 82 points.

The Brooke Point girls won rather comfortably as well as they placed 4 runners in the top 20 for a score of 71 points as Jessica Hoppe led her squad with a 4th place finish of 21:13. The team is currently ranked 4th in the Group AAA and is a favorite to win the Northwest Region.

Just like their male counterparts, the Colonial Forge girls took runner-up honors as Tina Porter's 6th place finishing time of 21:32 was a big help to the Lady Eagle cause as they scored 92 points.

C.D. Hylton junior Jemissa Hess, ranked 4th overall in the entire state was beaten by both 5th ranked Shiring and 8th ranked Novara to finish 3rd in a time of 20:40 as that will definitely shake up the in order when the next rankings are released.
