Coaches Information

Weather
We expect reasonably good weather. The forecast calls for clear and sunny with temps in the mid 40’s at the start of the meet increasing to the mid 60’s by the end of the meet. Winds should be from the east up to 8 mph. The home straight of the track is oriented in a northeasterly direction.

Directions and Bus / Team Parking
Head west on Prices Fork Road. Pass Kipps Elementary and pass the main entrance for the Blacksburg Middle School. Turn left into the bus loop parking for the middle school. We will be using our cross country parking signs. So look for yellow signs that say “XC Bus Parking”. There will be parent volunteers to direct you to the bus parking lot near the gym at the high school.

Team Areas
A ticket table will be located at the base of the path leading to the team area and to the track. Team tents can be set up along the right side of the path near the throwing area or on the soccer fields above and along side the home straight. Parent volunteers will be able to direct you should you have any questions.

Admission and Spectator Parking
Spectators can set their GPS for 3401 Bruin Lane and turn left at the traffic light into the main entrance for the high school. Parent volunteers will direct them to the student parking lot, and then to the ticket table. A $5 per person entry fee will be charged to all spectators. Spectators may view the meet from the edge of the soccer field above the home straight or from the path that leads up to the track from the parking lot, near turns 3 and 4.

Rest Rooms
Teams, coaches and spectators should use the rest rooms located in the concessions stand at the football stadium. The school building will only be used in the event of inclement weather that forces us to leave the track area.

Concessions
A concessions trailer will be available and serving pizza, snacks and drinks.

T-Shirts
T- Shirts will be available for $15 each.

Coaches Packets
These can be picked up at the Timing Shed. A meeting for all coaches will be held at 8:45 at the timing shed.

Coaches Hospitality
The black tent in the infield is reserved for coaches and meet officials only. There will be coffee and light breakfast snacks available starting at 8:00. Lunch will be served around Noon. Coaches should bring the meal tickets in their team packets for lunch.

Check In / Clerking
There is no advance declaration needed for athletes in running events. All running event athletes must check in by second call at the tent near the 100 / 110 starting line. Athletes are asked to stay in this staging area and will be marshalled to the starting line by the clerk of the course.

Check In for field events takes place at the field event by having your athlete see the official for that event.

Running events take priority over field events. Have your athlete check out with the field event judge if they will be going to a running event. Field event judges will make every effort to accommodate athletes who check out and try to help them get their jumps and throws in.

Warm Ups
The infield is reserved for field event athletes who are competing. All warm ups for running events must take place outside of the track. There will be an open warm up period for field events up until 10 minutes prior to the event start. The 10 minutes before each flight will be reserved for warm ups for just the athletes in that flight.

Coaches Boxes
Coaches may coach at the throws area from behind the flagging. The long, triple and high jumps may be coached from outside the track or from the coaches hospitality tent in the infield. Running events may be coached from the outside of the track on turns 1 and 2, the back straight, and turns 3 and 4. The grass along lane 6 is reserved for meet officials and for the marshalling of athletes to and from the clerking area.
