Woodbridge Boys 2009 Cardinal District XC Champions, Girls take a solid third place

Victory at Cardinal District Outdoor Meet

The Woodbridge Track and Field boys team won the Cardinal District Title, narrowly defeating their main rival, Potamac Senior High School. The team is ecstatic at this un-forseen victory. After going into day two with a 9-point deficit, the athletes in the field events excelled, giving the Vikings enough points to make up for the deficit and to defeat the powerful Potomac jumps team. A special congratulations is due the the throws team who managed to secure 30-points.

First Place performances by Andre Washington in the 300m hurdles with a 39.34, Andrew McGreal in the 800m run with a 1:59.93, and Isaiah Simmons in the shot put (distance to be posted soon).

Second Place performances by Scott Teribury in the 800 with 2:00.19, Isaiah Simmons in the Discus with 142-2.00, Josh Christovich in the high jump with 6-0.00, Gustavo Osorio in the pole-vault with 10-6.00, Andre Washington in the 200 with 22.41, and Kyle Gutierrez in the 3200 with 10:07.42.

On the girls side, second place performances by Michelle Britto in the 1600 with 5:18.66.

Woodbridge Excels at STC

AT the Southern Track Classic, Woodbridge rolled out. The girls Sprint Medley Relay, consisting of J'Quiana McGhee and Tiffany Jones for the 200s, Chanel Funtleroy for the 400, and Michelle Britto for the, placed first and broke the meet record. The girls SMR destroyed their competition, finishing with a solid lead. The record setting relay's time was 4:14.57, winning the event by over 7 seconds.

THE boys SMR ran an awesome race coming in first place with no competion in sight. The relay consisted of Kelvin Lewis and RaMon Mathis in the 200s, Andre Washington in the 400, and Andrew McGreal in the 800. The relay's time was 3:36.24, winning by over 4 seconds.

BOTH the Woodbridge boy's and girl's SMR are ranked first in the State. The boy's SMR is ranked 36th in the nation; the girl's SMR is ranked 37th in the nation.

JOHN Wolff placed third in the Emerging Elite 400m dash. This race brought together the best Freshmen in the state. His time was 53.84.

THE Girls 4x400m ran 4:17.20, placing 8th.

Boys are Runner Up at Brian Watkins

The Woodbridge High School boys came in second at the Brian Watkins Classic haeld at Potomac. Strong performances by the 4x100, 4x400, Isaiah Simmons in Shot Put, Kelvin Lewis in the 200, Andre Washington in the 400, Scott Teribury in the 800, and Andrew McGreal in the 1600. The entire team performed spectacularly and is off to a great start.

Strong performances by Andre Washington, Gustavo Osorio, and Kelvin Lewis, all of whom scored major points in their respective events. The 4x800 relay also broke the meet record with a time of 8:17.14.
