If anyone thought that Northside senior Catherine White was having an off season this fall they better guess again. Especially her fellow Foot Locker South favorites throughout the region. White broke the meet and course record at the Runnin\' With The Wolves Rocktoberfest Invitational by 23 seconds with a time of 18:24 competing in the open race. The returning Foot Locker All-American had set the course mark last year in a time of 18:47. Instead of competing in the varsity high school girls division, White opted to compete in the open division as she was paced by former Northside teammate and 2006 AA state outdoor 3200 meter champion Zac Edwards. Meanwhile, in the most exciting finish of the meet, Jefferson Forest junior Matthew Kadak was able to surge past Christiansburg\'s Caleb Hughes right before the finish to take the win on his home course in 16:56 with Hughes a tick back at 16:57. Team champions were Christiansburg boys and Jefferson Forest girls. Martinsville\'s Amy Smith won the varsity girls\' race in a solid time of 20:28 on the challenging 5K course layout found at Wolf Branch Farm. An outstanding meet run by Coach Jerome Loy and the rest of the Jefferson Forest crew that I would definitely highly recommend to any coach to put on their schedule next fall. BEST START TO A RACE, great music all over the course, creek crossings, leaps over logs, and overall great atmosphere for a cross country event! More to come from Runnin With The Wolves including quotes from the winners, story, photos, and video clips as MileStat.com was on-site with Brandon Miles and Ryan Call.
