Eastern Shore District Meet

Northern Neck District Meet

Washington & Lee HS XC Course - 5K
Montross, VA

RESULTS: Complete Results

Washington & Lee boys and girls were once again crowned Northern District champions as the Lancaster girls gave the the defending champs from Montross a two point scare on their home course. Lancaster had both individual champions with Aaron Holzbach clocking a 17:33 to win the boys\' race, while Ashley Ransome distanced herself from the field by over a minute with her time of 22:03.

Tidewater District Meet

RESULTS: Top 10 Individuals & Team Scores

West Point swept both team titles at the Tideweater District Meet as the girls\' team (34 pts) just narrowly snuck out with a one point win over King William (35 pts). The King William girls have two strong individuals in Carter and Dandridge who went well under 21 minutes on the 3.05 mile course at Eastern State Hospital as Carter won the individual title in 20:25 and Dandridge was the district runner-up in 20:33. West Point\'s Feucht won the boys\' race in 17:11.

Region B

Bull Run District Meet
Wednesday, October 25th Rappahannock County HS XC Course - 5K Washington, VA RESULTS: Top 15 Results w/ Team Scores No surprise with the Clarke County boys and girls\' teams dominating their district as the defending state champions and current #1 ranked squads in Group A won convincingly. The Clarke County boys scored a perfect 15 with the top five finishers in the race despite sitting out top runner and two-time state champion Simon Biddle-Snead. The Eagles were led by Chris York, who posted a best time of 16:44 to win, while he was followed by teammates Bryan Broy (2nd, 17:01), Joe Racer (3rd,17:16), Daniel Callan (6th, 17:18), and Ben Veilleux (5th, 17:18). It was one of the first races back for Veilleux, last year\'s state runner-up to Biddle-Snead as the sophomore had been out due to injury since mid September. Kenny Lohr of Madison County had a solid individual race as he posted a time of 17:24 to finish sixth overall. The Clarke County girls were quite impressive as Sophia Holmes continues to run strong this fall as she picked up a big district title win over one of the pre-season favorites to win the Group A state title in Susanna Sullivan of George Mason (2nd, 19:40) as Holmes won big in a time of 19:11. Holmes will have a tough test next week with Buffalo Gap senior Mariah Hagadone running well this fall also. Clarke County had three of the top four finishers with Holmes, Erin Broy (3rd, 19:50), and 2004 state champion Danielle Moyer (4th, 20:58).

Shenandoah District Meet

RESULTS: Boys - Girls

Top ranked in Group A, Buffalo Gap senior Mariah Hagadone crushed the field at the Shenandoah District Meet as won by over a minute margin with her final time of 19:16. However, the Buffalo Gap girls were unable to defeat Page County as they finished 14 points behind the district champs. Page County was led by senior Cerrianne Leatherland, who posted a time of 20:35 to take finish third overall. Luray junior Jenny Logan had a great race to take district runner-up in 20:21. Team finishes were reversed with the boys as Buffalo Gap (36 pts) squeaked out a one point win over Page County (37 pts), which was a mild upset with Page County currently ranked #3 in Group A and Buffalo Gap ranked #4. Page County had the individual district champion in senior Ethan Price as he was 22 seconds ahead of teammate Chris Hurlbert (17:31) with a time of 17:09. However, Buffalo Gap was able to overcome the two front runners from Page County with depth as they had five finishers in the top ten with Sean Henke (4th, 18:15), Nick Corbin (5th, 18:16), Craig Cromer (8th, 18:27), Ryan Pyles (9th, 18:29), and Shea Youell (10th, 18:37).

Dogwood District Meet

Altavista, VA

RESULTS: Complete Results

The Dogwood District Meet pitted two of the better individual Group A runners in the state against one another in Altavista\'s Andrew Rigler and Nelson County\'s Josh Morris. Morris is the top returnee from the state meet who does not run for defending team champions Clarke County, while Rigler has really came on this fall in cross country in the Group A ranks. Rigler came out the winner as he dethroned the defending district champion Morris with a time of 17:03 on the Frazier Farms 5K course. Morris finished 23 seconds back as district runner-up in 17:23. However, Morris helped lead the Group A #5 ranked Nelson County boys to a convincing 37 point victory over William Campbell for the district title. Both individual and team titles for the girls were swept by host school Altavista as Sarah Murphy had the top time at 20:22 with Gretna\'s Ashley Hardy also running under 21 minutes for second at 20:47. The Altavista girls had five of the top seven finishers to tally a 23 point total.

Region C

Hogoheegee District Meet

Sugar Hollow Park - 3mi
Bristol, VA

RESULTS: Top 15 Results W/ Team Scores

Jakob Maidens of Leban finished fourth in last year\'s district meet with a time of 16:52. With top three finishers in 2005 having graduated, Maidens seized the opportunity and dropped his time 26 seconds to 16:26 to be crowned the 2006 Hogoheegee District champ at Sugar Hollow Park\'s three mile course. Maidens, currently ranked # 8 in Group A, won by almost a full minute with John Battle\'s Adam Hawthorne in second at 17:20. Hawthorne helped pace John Battle (42 pts) to the district team title as they usurped Patrick Henry (49 pts) from the district throne. The Patrick Henry girls were able to defend their district title though and quite easily with the top three finishers in district champion Jessie Morgan (1st, 20:37), Brittany Bryant (2nd, 20:59), and Heather Stroup (3rd, 21:33) for the #5 ranked in Group A.

Mountain Empire District Meet

Galax, VA

RESULTS: Complete Results

Grayson County swept both team titles as the girls took the top three individual places with district champion Carrie Nelson leading the way with a time of 21:29. Galax sophomore Manuel Echeagaray broke up a complete sweep of all district titles as he was nine seconds better than Grayson junior Michael Davis (17:13) with a winning time of 17:04 on the Southwestern Virginia Training Center 5K course. For Group A #8 ranked Nelson, it was her third consecutive district championship, while Group A # 14 ranked Echeagaray repeated for his second title.

Pioneer District Meet

RESULTS: Top 15 Results w/ Team Scores

The Craig County girls repeated as district champions, while last year\'s district runner-up Whitney Fitzgerald of Parry McCluer moved one place up with her first district title in 21:39. Colby Bryant of James River won on his home course in 19:15 for the boys\' individual title, while the Covington boys (42 pts) were two point winners over Craig County (44 pts) for the district team championship.

Three Rivers District Meet

Pearisburg, VA

RESULTS: Top 15 Results w/ Team Scores

At the Three Rivers District Championships, two of Group A\'s best individuals were featured in the meet with defending Group A 1600 meter state champion Nathan Brame of Radford and Glenvar freshmen Megan Marsico, who is looking to follow in the footsteps of past Glenvar star and state champion Kelly Clark. Brame, currently ranked #1 in Group A as well as ranked #6 in the \"Cream of the Crop\" all-classification state rankings, ran 26 seconds faster than he did in his 2005 district championship as he clocked a 15:37 three mile course at Giles High School.

Meanwhile, Marsico was 34 seconds off of Clark\'s 2005 winning time. Clark went onto finish second in the Group A state race with a time of 18:55. Marsico is certainly can be expected to have a high finish in this year\'s state race as she is currently ranked #6 in Group A.

The Radford boys looked pretty tough and definitely showed why they are #2 ranked in A with a perfect 15 team score. Behind Brame, the next five finishers were all Radford with Daniel Harrell (2nd, 16:34), Charles Mogen (3rd, 16:52), Paul Castonguay (4th, 17:36), Marshall Williams (5th, 17:39), and Philip Mogen (6th, 17:42).

The Radford girls with 28 points did not sweep the meet, but looked pretty good nonetheless as they were 29 points ahead of Glenvar (57 pts). Nikki Greco was the district winning team\'s top finisher as race runner-up to Marsico in 20:46.

Region D

Black Diamond District Meet

Council, VA

RESULTS: Top 15 Results w/ Team Scores

Host school Council swept the team and individual titles at the Black Diamond District Meet. The boys\' team had a perfect 15 score with their top three finishers finishing in a three second span with Alex Compton (1st, 17:49), Shannon Breeding (2nd, 17:50), and Dan Presley (3rd, 17:52). The Council girls with 23 points also featured the district individual champion in Haley Arrington with a time of 21:34.

Cumberland District Meet
Wednesday, October 25th
Oxbow Lake - 5K
St. Paul, VA

RESULTS: Top 15 Results w/ Team Scores

Thomas Walker boys and girls claimed the Cumberland district crowns, while Castlewood\'s Josh Sproles spoiled Thomas Walker\'s hopes of taking both individual titles as he finished 14 seconds ahead of Thomas Walker\'s Colin Skeen (17:11) with a time of 16:57 at Oxbow Lake. Thomas Walker had the top three finishers in the girls\' race with Jessica Hansel (1st, 21:56), Shyla Jones (2nd, 21:58), and Jessica Burke (3rd, 22:06).

Lonesome Pine District Meet
Thursday, October 26th
Camp Bethal - 5K
Wise, VA

RESULTS: Top 15 Results w/ Team Scores

J.J. Kelly senior Brittany Killough competed in her first and last Lonesome Pine District Cross Country Championships and she definitely left her mark by winning the district title with a time of 18:30 and close to two minute margin. Killough transferred to J.J. Kelly from AAA school Franklin County in the middle of her junior year. Following her to the line 1 minute and 43 seconds later was teammate Lauren Bonney in a time of 20:13. Bonney is the early favorite to win next year\'s individual title.

However, the top two finishers in the race was not enough for J.J. Kelly (40 pts) as Gate City won by 15 points with a team score of 25 points. The Gate City team was able to get Ashton Bishop out for cross country as the state champion hurdler and high jumper is quite a versatile athlete as she also plays basketball for Gate City as well. Gate City had five finishers in the top nine with a 50 second spread from fourth place Stephanie Howington (22:15) to ninth place Makagle Brickey (23:05).

The Clintwood boys rolled to the district championship with a strong top four as they swept the first four individual places with district champion Zac Evans (16:47), Evan Vanover (2nd, 16:56), David Mullins (3rd, 17:09), and Derrick Vance (4th, 18:01).
