The 8th annual Battle of the Potomac, border war style post-season race between the states of Virginia and Maryland as well as runners from DC and West Virginia was held on Saturday, November 23rd at Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It turned out to be the most lopsided days in meet history in Team Maryland's favor with their state certainly able to gather more of their top runners to compete than a smaller turnout of Virginia's elite. Scoring through the first 10 runners from each state, Team Maryland won on the girls side 63 (MD) to 147 (VA) points, while the margin of victory was even larger on the boys' side at 60 (MD) to 150 (VA) points. West Potomac senior Katie Genuaro points was the only top 15 individual finisher from Virginia in the girls' race with a 3rd place effort of 20:05, while the Virginia boys were led by Battlefield's Haben Zemichael (7th, 16:56) and South County's Alec Jones (14th, 17:14).
