Results Update: Battlefield's Ellison Grove finished 3rd today at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic invitational girls 800 meter race with a indoor PR time of 2:15.81. Results Grove had a previous indoor PR of 2:16.23 from the New Balance Indoor Nationals last March. Emma Gallagher of Garden City (NJ) repeat as the race winner from last December's meet in a US #1 time of 2:16. The Battlefield senior Grove now moves up to a US #4 ranking in the event to go along with her US #2 ranking in the 500 and 1000.
Race Preview: Ellison Grove, the returning Group AAA state outdoor champion at 800 meters, competes today at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the New York Armory in the invitational 800 field which features three girls who have ran faster than Grove's 2:11.38 personal best and four others who have ran in the 2:12 to 2:16 range behind her. The race is slated to start at 12:50 PM mid-day on Friday. Grove competed last year in this same race and finished second to Garden City's Emma Gallagher with a time of 2:16. Gallagher returns as the race champion and top seed with a 2:09.22 PR. Grove has gotten off to a strong start to her indoor season with back to back sub 3 minute races in the 1000 at Liberty University earlier this month including a 2:56.13 PR and last week posted a US #2 time in the 500 meter dash at the =PR= Holiday Invitational with a 1:15.84 performance. It would appear that Grove is ready to run much faster than her 2012 race at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic based off her recent race performances.
