CNU High School Winter Frolic

RESULTS: Girls - Boys

CNU Highlights: Mills Godwin\'s Anne Marie-Gordon opened up her senior year vaulting high with a clearance of 11\'3\" in the CNU opener. Lake Braddock girls showed depth in distances with an \"A\", \"B\", and \"C\" team all running MileStat.com Elite times with the \"A\" team winning in a state best 9:49. Lee-Davis senior Rachel Butler picked up a pair of wins in 55 meter hurdles (8.69) and triple jump (37-8). DeShana Briggs of Booker T. Washington kicked off what should be a great year in the girls high jump in Virginia with a 5\'8\" win. Oscar Smith\'s Frede Smith had a big throw of 57\'3.75\" to win the boys shot put. Anthony Chesson of Manchester took the 300 meter dash in 36.01, but lost in the 55 meter dash to I.C. Norcom\'s Isaiah Gyasi (6.45). Jamestown\'s Andrew Mearns (4:30.23) had a close win over Atlee\'s Ben Dejarnette (4:31.48) in the 1600 meter run.

George Mason University High School Invitational

RESULTS: Boys - Girls

GMU Highlights: Defending AAA 1000 meter champion had a stellar return from injury that forced her to miss the entire outdoor and cross country seasoon with a 3:02 win at George Mason. Another defending AAA state champion in indoor 3200 champ Sarrah Hadiji of W.T. Woodson followed up her great run at Foot Locker South to end her cross country season with a 11:01 3200 to jump start her indoor season. Clemson bound April Sinkler of Brooke Point had a dominant meet in winning the high jump (5-4), long jump (17-11), and triple jump (37-5). Robert E. Lee\'s Sean Holston looks to be the man to beat in the sprints this season as the defending AAA state champ posted a swift 6.43 clocking in the 55 meter dash. Herndo duo of Ermin Mujezinovic (9:42) and Matt Giorgis (9:48) put up two solid early season times in the 3200 meter run to take the top two places.

Liberty Highlights: Plenty of outstanding times posted and especially in the distance events. Blacksburg\'s Peter Dorrell had a great double in the 1600 (4:23) and 1000 (2:36) meter races. The Blacksburg trio of Cate Berenato, Allison Homer, and Laurel MacMillan that lead the girls team to a AA state title last month was strong up front again as the top three finishers in the 1600 meter run with all under 5:20 and Berenato winning in 5:15. The same trio comprised three of the top four finishers in the 1000 meter run with nearly all three under 3:10 with Heritage\'s Laura Rapp winning in 3:04. Orange County\'s Carl Johnson had a best clearance of 6\'8\" in the high jump to put him as an early AA state title front runner in the event with Brookville\'s Ethan Nixon at 6\'6\" in second. Daniel Inge of E.C. Glass became the first vaulter to clear 14 feet this season to win at Liberty.
