RENO, NV -- Mills Godwin senior Anne Marie Gordon is in \"The Biggest Little City in the World\" in Reno, Nevada this weekend to compete in the Pole Vault Summit. The Summit gathers some of the nation\'s best high school, collegiate, and professional vaulters to compete in a festive and competitive event for the unique field event. Gordon is Virginia\'s best in the event by a foot and three inches with her 11\'9\" this best.
The Duke University recruit will be looking for a big weekend in Reno and possible venture over 12 feet as she would join a trio of past Virginians to clear the height including 2006 Western Albemarle grad Ashley Early (now competing at Virginia Tech). Early set an unofficial state record at the Summit two years ago with a 12\'2\" clearance. Early ended up clearing 12\'10\" outdoors and 12\'9\" indoors to set the benchmark for Gordon and future vaulters to attempt to follow. Gordon currently ranks #4 all-time in Virginia high school history in the event at 11\'9\" behind Early, 2002 Atlee grad Kira Barcus (12\'0\"), and 2003 Prince George grad Rhian Jenks (12\'0\").
The Summitt will be held Friday and Saturday, January 19th and 20th at the Grand Sierra Resort (formerly Reno Hilton) in Reno, Nevada. Official meet website is located at http://www.polevaultsummit.com/post_2002_summit.3.htm.
