Despite being a completely new regional championship many of the former AAA Northern Regional teams came in with a sense of not only setting meet standards for the new meet but for expanding on the already illustrious history of this meet. Winning the team titles in this region were the Lake Braddock Girls and Chantilly Boys who held on to win by a single point over T. C. Williams who used the 4x400 to secure second place by a single point over James W. Robinson.

Though the team race had a nail-biting finish the real story of the meet were the many top state and even national leading performances. The highlight of these was Battlefield senior Elison Grove’s national leading 1:14.07 500. Following that trend West Springfield senior Caroline Alcorta wanted to run her own impressive performance and did so when she ran 10:22 in the 3200 en route to a US #4 time.
