Midlothian coach Stan Morgan has been involved with coaching high school track for 40 years. Next year's VHSL Group AAA State Indoor Championships will be the 50th anniversary of Morgan's come from behind anchor leg on the 4x400 meter relay to give Washington-Lee a state title win in the event in 1958. Despite enjoying state championship glory then, Coach Morgan had yet to experience a state team championship in track since with 40 plus years of coaching. That all changed for Morgan on Saturday thanks to a group of talented distance girls at the AAA State Championships.


The Midlothian girls stopped track powerhouse program Bethel from winning a record fourth straight indoor championship as they tallied 49 points to become the first AAA team to win a state championship on distance points alone. "To go into that meet and win without sprinters, jumpers, and throwers," Morgan pauses. "It was pretty incredible."
