VA Outdoor Week #1 Coverage

First weekend of outdoor track in Virginia kicked off this weekend with a large number of schools attending the All-American Track Classic in Richmond, while also two invitationals being run off up north in the Saxon Track Classic at Langley High School as well as the Brian Watkins I-95 Invite at Potomac Senior High School. Complete results are now up from all three major meets. Photos and video to come from the All-American Track Classic and do not forget this is the first weekend that we are entering all times/marks from weekend invites! So be patient as we enter in all of the times.

RESULTS: Boys Complete - Girls Complete

Boys Highlights:

  • Matoaca sr Aramis Massenburg double winner in the hurdles with a 14.34 clocking in the 110H and 39.50 clocking in the 300H
  • Andrew Mearns split a 4:22 on 1600 meter anchor leg on Jamestown's 11:00.32 DMR
  • Kevin Nichols of Hickory cleared a personal best height of 6'8" in the high jump
  • Huguenot sr Donnie Seward clocks an early season sub 50 400 in a 49.67 win

Girls Highlights: 

  • Matoaca sr Shanneka Claiborne takes two sprints with a 11.91 clocking in the 100 and 24.56 clocking in the 200
  • Caroline's Keisha Garrick is a runner-up to Claiborne in both the 100 and 200, while winning the triple jump in 37'7"
  • Wanetta Kirby of Huguenot improves her PB by .24 of a second with a 14.50 opener win in the 100 meter hurdles

Boys Highlights:

  • Mountain View boys run an impressive DMR of 10:33.08 in a virtually solo effort
  • Mountain View sweeps the jumps with Cedric Hudson in the long jump, Olu Olamigoke in the triple jump, and Deshun Whitaker in the high jump
  • Potomac's Brice Matthews dips under 50 secs for 50 meters in 49.68 

Girls Highlights: 

  • Returning outdoor state champion Brittni Dixon-Smith of Woodbridge (18'8") wins long jump duel over April Sinkler of Brooke Point (18'2")
  • Battlefield's Kim Blaylock is a double winner in the sprints by posting times of  12.38 and 25.95 in the 100 and 200
  • Heather Lambert of Mountain View kicks off spring with a 5:15.34 1600 win
  • 1600 meter runner-up Becky Stewart of Brentsville doubles back in 11:10 3200 win
  • Brooke Point's Becky Sampson sweeps hurdles (15.91 100H, 48.24 300H)
  • Brentsville girls roll out a 12:32.11 DMR


Saxon Track Classic

Boys Highlights:

  • George Mason's Josh Jenkins breaks 50 seconds in the 400 and just off his 49.48 PR from the 2005 Group A State Meet to make himself an early front runner for the state title with a 49.53 clocking
  • Alan Webb's younger brother, Chris Webb, wins his first invitational race with a 1600 PR time of 4:42.66
  • Langley's Jordan Calderwood sweeps the hurdles in his home meet with first places in the 110 (15.42) and 300 (40.00) meter hurdles

Girls Highlights: 

  • All-American discus throw Natalie Baird of Park View opens up her outdoor season with an impressive beginning mark of 146'9". Baird also won the shot put in 38'4.75" to set meet records in both throwing events.
  • George Mason's Susanna Sullivan looks tough to beat in Group A this spring after a great double at Langley with a 5:10.94 win in the 1600 and came back with her first sub 11 minute performance of 10:57.67
  • James Madison's Veronice Day won both the long jump (17'2.50") and triple jump (36'1.75")


Jim Taylor Relays

Saturday, March 24th
Jefferson HS - Shenandoah Junction, WV

 

RESULTS: Top 6 Girls - Top 6 Boys 

 

Highlights:

  • Millbrook had strong relays in the distance events as both boys and girls swept the 4x1600 and DMR relays as Jillian Pollack and Sullivan Parkes were top legs for the girls and Stephen Lassiter and Bobby Vance for the girls.
