High School Weekend Meet Report: Week 6

MileStat.com Invitational Recap 10/11
Girls' Race Winner: Fauquier jr Sarah Bowman 18:37 Boys' Race Winner: Thomas Dale sr Jon Turnbull 16:33

CHESTERFIELD, VA -- The third running of the MileStat.com Invitational and first edition of the meet as an in-season team meet went very smoothly and very fast! Fast in terms of the times put out by some of the individuals on the day. Fauquier junior Sarah Bowman shattered the Pocahontas State Park 5K course record with her winning time of 18:37. Bowman had a great "pacer" in the form of Aurora Scott, the 12 year old phenom from Portsmouth. Scott, racing unattached and ineligible to finish, led Bowman through the first mile in under 5:10 and led throughout until she had to pull off to the side prior to finish (since she was ineligible to race). She would have been on pace to break 18:30 on the Pocahontas course. A mighty feat for such a tiny competitor. Meanwhile, St. Catherine's sophomore Katie Doswell finished with a strong runner-up time of 19:02. The Fauquier girls (59 points) were victorious over St. Catherine's girls (73 pts) for the varsity team title. Thomas Dale's Jonathan Turnbull ran away with the individual title in the boys' race with a personal best time of 16:33. Josh Napoleon of Manchester (16:37) and Nick Belcher of Thomas Dale (16:49) had solid runs for second and third places. Napoleon helped lead his Manchester Lancers to the team title with 24 points.
