While everyone was focused on Foot Locker and Indoor track, some Virginians were doing some pretty big things down in South Carolina this past week.
This weekend the Richmond T&F club put in some serious work down at Myrtle Beach by winning the boys 17-18 National Championship! This team was comprised of Joseph Boyle (Maggie Walker-12th), Justin Wilck (Maggie Walker-15th), Patrick Wachter (Maggie Walker - 20th), Sheldon Harris (Lee-Davis- 22nd), Evan Fisher (Maggie Walker- 25th), Morgan Vest (Lee-Davis-28th), Eric Kim (Maggie Walker -37th), and Matt Rucker (Maggie Walker-63rd).
This was not their first national championship either as Richmond T&F won on this exact same course back in 2011 with an equally star-studded lineup. Many of these guys added this title to their already impressive trophy case from this past season where Maggie Walker dominated once again by winning the VHSL Class 2A State Title for the second year in a row.
Richmond T&F also had a whopping total of 14 All-Americans! In the girls 15-16 race Richmond T&F was a close national runner-up being led by super-stars Julia Wood (Rappahannock County-2nd) who is a two time defending 1A State Champion, Khloe Pointer (Maggie Walker-3rd) who is also a state champion (2A), and Emma Call (Maggie Walker-19th).
On the individual front Jack Ikenberry (Lee-Davis) was a big performer finishing fourth in the boys 13-14 race, he did this by running 12:54 for the 4K distance. Also placing inside the top 10 individually were Ryan Buscaglia (Maggie Walker) and Jacob Watson (King George) who placed 5th and 10th in their races.
